As a writer, how do I get background information about a claim that has been made?
I just began a critical thinking course, and I would really appreciate any information someone could give me on the how, where, and what to look for to gather background information to support a claim that has been made.
Early in the 1980s, Al Gore invented the Internet, where we can look up just about anything to support just any claim made about anything. It is possible then to cross-check to determine the veracity of various information.
Prior to that, in the old days, we relied on libraries (public or university) and a marvelous search vehicle called "Lexis-Nexis."
