Is the Western Digital Caviar Black better than the Caviar Green?
I am building a computer and trying to trim some volume levels as I want to use this computer for recording as well as video editing, 3D sfx rendering, and some gaming. My question is this:
The Caviar Green is a little bit quieter than the black, but is the loss in speed worth it? I am already planning to install rattle proof brackets, and, if needed, soundproofing. The quiet is nice for recording, but the speed is good for editing. I'm stymied. If anyone can help, I thank you.
I am a recording technician, and I say go for the speed. Reason being, you can sound proof the outside of the computer case, but you cant increase the speed. Going with a higher speed unit is, in my opinion, the best solution. Make sure if you decide to sound proof, you do so on the outside, not the inside, so as not to make things stuffy inside, and cause overheating. Also keep in mind that you can't cover up the fans in the back. Final opinion, I say go with the black and sound proof. You want good quality recordings and sound. It's nice to see someone actually paying attention to the details.
