Flash Wireless
What are people talking about when they say wireless flash? (Might be getting it wrong)?
I heard that Nikon cameras has something wireless flash built in an that canon's don't. And that Canon Cameras to get the same feature, you would have to pay like 400 dollars for it? I might be getting the wrong thing. If someone would help me clarify.

There are several variations on wireless flash.
Nikon cameras, from the D70 and up, have a wireless flash controller built in to the body. It uses the pop-up flash to send signals to a flash unit off the camera, allowing full control of the flash just as if it was attached to the camera. The D50 and D40/40X/60 cameras do not have the wireless controller in the body, and require an attached master flash, (an SB-800 or 900), or flash controller (SU-800) to do the same thing.
Canon has never built a controller into the body. They have always required a "master" flash in the hot shoe to control "slave" flashes off camera. Of course the master flashes are whatever their most current, top of the line unit is, currently the 580EX II, just like Nikon. There is a separate controller, the ST-E2, which can be used instead, which runs about $225 or so by itself.
Sony also has the flash controller in the body, like the Nikon system, allowing full control of an off-camera flash.
All three of these systems are designed to allow the use of TTL flash, which is supposed to be a good thing.
There are other ways to do it, radio frequency remotes that only tell a flash to fire, or optical remotes that fire a flash when they see another flash, or high end radio frequency gear that maintains TTL ability.
It depends on what you want to do, and what you have to work with.
