Question for "born again Christians" were you a Christian that left your faith and came back? were you .......?
Atheist that changed your mind? were you a Muslin, sikh etc that converted to Christianity?
i'm just trying to get a idea of where the majority of BACs were before they turned to Christ.
Lover of God and not of self - whats the difference between a Catholic and a Christian? I thought they were pretty much the same, anyone else can answer these additional details if they wish?
I was raised in what was commonly thought of as a Christian home. I later came to realize this was just what some people think. I went to a Methodists church as a child once a month (when we had a preacher). Millions of Americans go to church on a regular basis who "think" they are a Christian for one reason or another- but really don't have a clue.
Much later in life- while going through a divorce- I found Jesus through an outreach from a Baptist church. I believed, was born again, and have never turned away. Eventually put my marriage back together. My wife turned because of the change in me, she believed and became a Christian (bac). Our life was somewhat like the story in the movie "Fireproof" thats playing now in theaters. Except, our situation was much worse. Thats been nearly 20 years ago. Jesus truly saves.
Edit: Catholics and Christians are not the same- but similar. Christianity is the religion. Catholic is just one denomination. Catholicism is one of the oldest denominations in Christianity, there are a few older but not nearly as big. At one time Catholicism did dominate the religion and ruled the world as a political power. During this time you had to be a catholic or die. The church would execute you if you would not convert- much like Islam. There is a tremendous history here if one would only read it. In the 16 century there was a reformation starter by a catholic priest -Martin Luther. This opened toe door for others to "protest" the church (not God). Several denominations sprung up. Some appeared very similar to the catholic church-Lutheran, and Anglican (COE), and were called "Protestants". They were still very much Catholic except they broke ties to Rome. Then there were the "radical reformers", a different breed altogether. They threw out all church tradition and ceremony and started all over with just the Bible and their belief in God as their sole source of information and authority. From this group you have Presbyterian, Baptists, Bible Church, Mennonite, Amish, and a few others. These are so vastly different from the others (in a good way) that they should qualify as a totally different religion. Unfortunately- the distinction between all these different denominations have become a blur over the last few years, and with the recent addition of the Pentecostal movement it is getting more difficult to tell one from the other. One can no longer depend on the name of a church to understand what is it- one must know the doctrinal teachings also. Some do not even have a doctrinal statement, such as many of the Pentecostal denominations.
There are some good people in all these fractured churches. And unfortunately the apostate church (false, self serving) is on the rise also. There are two communities where these phony churches are growing rapidly- the Pentecostal community and the black community. Think of churches with pastors like Benny Hinn and Joel Osteen, or Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan - and you will get the picture. Completely phony and designed for a purpose other than serving God and teaching the gospel.
