Is it better to use boxing gloves or bare hands on a puching bag?
I was wondering if boxing gloves will help increase my "punching strength" or what? My punching bag is a little "stick-up" bag like the ones where you put a sandbag-like object on a stick that stands up.
depends on the material and the weight of the bag..
i wear at least the mitts(they are basically leather gloves with like an 1/8th inch of padding.. they weigh nothing.. the only reason i wear them is because when i throw my hooks or uppercuts, if i graze the bag accidently, its like a tire peeling out on the road.. scrapes the crap out of your knuckles, then it is uncomfortable until it heal, like a week later..
boxing gloves vary in weight, however all of them hinder your natural speed and power..
you practice with some heavy gloves, like 16 ounces. then take them off and see how much faster you punch..
punching without gloves allegedly makes your hands strong, BUT.... 10 years later when your hands look like busted up feet and you have unbearable arthritis, you can look back and say, " i was tight!!"
